Anchorage Fire Explorers Minimize

About the Anchorage Fire Explorers

The Anchorage Fire Explorers have been around for more than 20 years.  Our goal is to teach the explorers what being a fire fighter is all about and at the same time, teach them to embrace ownership, responsibility and leadership within the post and in their lives.

Explorers have the opportunity to learn many of the basic and some of the advanced techniques used by firefighters every day.  Explorers are also exposed to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS).  After learning the basics and accomplishing certain benchmarks, our Explorers earn the opportunity to ride along on Anchorage Fire Department Fire Engines and Ambulances.

Anchorage Fire Explorers are strongly encouraged to pursue higher education after graduating from high school.  Many of our Explorers have gone on to work at fire departments throughout the State of Alaska and the Lower 48.

About Learning For Life (LFL)

Fire Service Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who have completed the eighth grade and are 14 years of age, or 15 years of age but have not yet reached their 21st birthday.

Fire Service Explorer posts which are part of the Learning for Life organization, help youth gain insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities. For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of fire service, Exploring offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth.

Post 264 Fire Explorers meet every Tuesday evening from 1800-2130

The next recruitment opportunity for the Anchorage Fire Explorers will be during September of 2010.
